“Knock My Socks Off Red”- Makeovers That Made Me Drool

It happens once in a blue moon. I get a bold client who makes my heart leap from my chest with her color choice. No, it’s not turquoise, it’s not even orange {both colors I adore}…it’s RED!

Red is such an intoxicating color! Whether it be on the lips, the finger tips, or a smokin’ hot gown, it lures you in, captivates and demands attention! The same is true for bold red furniture! I am so thankful for fearless clients who give me the chance to work with such awesome colors and live vicariously through them! This month, I was lucky enough to get to paint two pieces in the same, decadent shade of red, I’ve coined “Knock My Socks Off Red”. It’s actually a custom mixed color from my friends at my local Spectrum Paint Store. It’s a dreamy Benjamin Moore Paint I mix with Websters Chalk Paint Powder™. I’m determined to actually name a paint color before I die and this will be the color!

They’ve both been delivered but they still have me drooling! Enjoy!

Now for the Dresser! I got to play around with General Finishes again this week on this piece! I used the Van Dyke Brown Glaze and sealed the piece in the Flat top coat. So in love with their products!

  3. Hi Angela…I’m thankful to Lori at Vintage Charm Restored for introducing me to your blog! Goodness! You have so much to enjoy…I signed up right away so I don’t miss a thing! I too have a desire to name a paint color…always wanted to be the person that comes up with the cleaver names for O.P.I. nail polish!! I love your red. I painted a piece using ASCP Emperor’s Silk and named it “Granny” for my mother who LOVED red!! I didn’t keep it so I need to do another in a “knock your socks off red”! I’ve used the Webster’s with great results I need to use it more the possibilities are endless! Thanks and I’m enjoying looking around at your beautiful work!

    • Well, first of all June, WELCOME! I am so glad you are here! Lori is a doll and I adore her! It’s nice to know we share a love for color names! O.P.I has awesome folks naming their colors too! I am totally obsessed I’ve even been known to make my color choice based on the name alone! For me, the name can really take you to a different place! I’m all about telling a story when I paint so the name of the color means so much! I hope you continue to find beauty and inspiration here! I look forward to hearing from you! All the best, Angela

    ohhhhhhooooo
I love red. I have 127 red Japanese maples, 13 different regular, American type, 19 different RED crape myrtles, every red helianthus and dianthus you can find, phlox, nandina, etc. LOVE love LOVE red. I love Red Truck Cabernet, my trucks is red, most of my undies are red, and I am planning a red, I think Chinese red bedroom. I love the reds that seem to have either a black base, or the gorgeous red my barn is. LOVE barn red. Something not orange, not blue, not .. sweet.

Are you going to share your paint color codes? I really love how your red is resolving itself on my monitor. Or… would you consider sharing a sample card and I’ll just buy it from you. :) Ooooo! The beginnings of a new business for you! RED!

    • Okay! Fine! You win!!!! You love red more than me, Christine! LOL :) I doooo have an e-book in the works…”Knock Your Socks Off Red” just may pop up there! I’m so glad I’ve met a fellow red lover and I hope you’ll stick around for more fun! Have a fabulous day! ~Angela~

  5. Well done Angela….well done! I love this color and would use it on anything! I love red and shades of red. Guess you could say I’m a real color lover. I’ll choose the most bold colors I can find and some of my friends will say “really Frankie?” My response: “go home!” I love to read about fun projects. Good luck on the next one.
    Sunny beach regards,
    Frankie

If only those pieces were mine!!!! I could just hear my teenage daughter now, “I knew it was going to be red.” I do have a couple of old pieces of my mother’s furniture, refinish as close to their original stain or go for the gusto?!?! I just love your work.

    • Lol! Teens are funny, aren’t they? You know what I recommend for refinishing? Do what will make you the most happy! Anytime you refinish a piece it loses value, whether you are having to re-stain it paint it! Look at it as investing into your happiness and do what you’ll enjoy the most! I actually really love to leave the tops stained when possible! Thank you for your kind words, Carol Ann! So nice to have you here!
