True Blue, Baby I Love You! Layering with Websters

Can I share my latest love affair with you? She’s strong, has amazing bone structure and curves in all the right places. 1 2 You might remember her companion: Chippy, layered paint and accented imperfections...allowing a piece to tell a story! I gave him layers of love back in August but I just couldn’t see the desk robed in those colors, so I let her hang out a little longer. It’s funny how inspiration works! When you least expect it, and usually when you are totally wrapped up in something else, a piece will speak! That’s pretty much what happened with this beauty!

All at once, she sang!

She may or may not have been influenced by Madonna’s True Blue, which played twice on my all ’80’s channel the morning she spoke! Nevertheless, when furniture speaks, I listen. Like I often do, I turned to things around the shop for inspiration. I went to the scrapbook paper first but nothing caught my eye. My next stop was the fabric drawer…it never fails me! As soon as I opened the drawer, this pattern smiled at me! I’ve combined it with furniture before and LOVED it so it was on! Fabric Inspiration I had a gorgeous shade of Benjamin Moore’s Nile Blue on the shelf but it was a bit dark. I went ahead and mixed a chalky batch of that for my base coat. Using the same color with a touch of Mascarpone, I created a color wash for my second coat. I drenched the piece with my base coat then purposely applied the wash, keeping distressing and waxing in mind. Thinking ahead like that is key when your layering! I used a combination of wet and dry distressing for a smooth, rubbed finish. The entire piece was accented with a dreamy white wax {more about that later} but the crevices got extra attention! Layered Paint Technique by A to Z Custom Creations The frosty dimension I ended up literally made me weak in the knees. That soft luster you see is thanks to Daddy Van’s Lavender Wax. So yummy!

Oh! About the fabric! I decided I’d make that an option {for my bold friends} and adhered it to the underside of the desk’s glass top. I fell even more in love after that! Layered Paint Technique by A to Z Custom Creations I’m going to enjoy a daily swoon with her until she is claimed by another lover! By the way. Can I just say how crazy excited I am to be breaking down this layering technique for the e-book? Step by step instructions, even when skillfully worded, don’t really explain the process! I can’t wait to SHOW you!

Smooches!
