Nothing antique or fancy {pressed wood deserves refreshing too}…just a deal my sweet friend alerted me to on a local yard sale site. I don’t think people could see past the dog’s artwork on this one but my friend knew it had worth! It has been serving a purpose in the house for months, storing extra bar and serving ware. Walking by it in this condition everyday was tough! I was tempted on several occasions to pull everything out and paint it but I never could settle on a finish. I knew I didn’t want to see what was inside and this $1 can of Frosted Glass was my initial plan.

That plan changed after working on this faux mercury glass project last month. I KNEW the glass had to be done with the Looking Glass Paint and I knew the body had to shimmer!

Enter Modern Masters Metallic Paint. I seriously can’t get enough of this stuff! I think everyone should add at least one piece of metallic furniture to their home. The luster and reflection it provides makes for the warmest, most inviting space. I used one of my favorites, Opaque Warm Silver. It’s the best covering option from the collection and plays more for the gold camp than the silver. It’s that luxurious gold though; soft and not too yellow.

Y’all know I normally paint from a dixie cup but I was out this day. I had two options, coffee cup or fancy stemmed crystal…I just couldn’t pour that lush goodness into a boring coffee cup! Pinky out ;)

Areas like this ALWAYS look worse when there is two tone action going on! Your eye goes right to the flaw! I knew the eye would be drawn up and away from this once it was painted, so I didn’t bother with anything more than sanding. Pressed wood can be fixed with bondo so if you have a piece with more notable damage, you could always go that route.

Bring on the paint! Because the surface was so slick, I gave it a prime coat of latex mixed with Websters first.  As always, the application of Modern Masters Metallic Paint was quick and easy. It adhered like a dream, without cloudiness and dried quick between coats. I got full coverage out of 2 light, even coats.

How lush is this?

I LOVE the mercury glass effect with the richness of the Warm Silver Shimmer! I wish I could capture the effect better.

The staging still isn’t singing to me and chances are, I’ll rearrange things a million and two more times…
