Repurposed Goodnesss-My Favorite Headboard Upcycles

Upcycling rocks! Giving an unwanted item new life is so very rewarding! Seeing an item beyond it’s intended purpose can be a challenge though. I think some people are just naturally creative but I also believe it is a learned skill- once you have that “ah-hah” or “why didn’t I think of that” moment, you begin to look for like items and really think outside the box. That said, I thought I’d round up a few of my favorite storage/display upcycles and share them in one post…you know, a bit of inspiration overload!

Starting with headboards…

These are the easiest to find! Thrift stores and flea markets have them in abundance and most are alone, with the rest of the frame, making them dirt cheap! Simple tools are needed to cut the legs off and the hardware to hang the piece is inexpensive.

Given the thin dimensions of a headboard, they are perfect for hanging coats and accessories in narrow spaces You can see step by step instructions on how to do it by clicking on the image.

My sweet Abbey :)

This one is probably my all time favorites. I really regret selling it! Cosmetically, it was bruised and beaten which made it a steal at an estate sale.

Instead of store bought hooks and knobs, I used these brass sconce candle holders…Repurposed Headboard by A to Z Custom Creations

They really added to the character!

Another favorite repurposed display comes from an antique organ cover. I picked it up for $10 at a local thrift store! I took out the middle panel and added a cork board.

I painted and distressed it in all the right spots then added hardware.

That middle panel got put to good use too! Not only was it perfect for jewelry storage, it was a work of art! Repourposed Organ Cover by A to Z Custom Creations

So? Did you get a few ideas? See things a little differently? That’s my hope, friend!

I love, love, love, this site. You are soooo talented and see things in a different light. You have given me inspiration. Now if only I can find similar objects to transform. Oregon is quite bare if you know what I mean.
