Sleek Furniture Finishes-Infusing Styles

This week, I painted a dresser, knowing full well it would fall outside the norm for most of my clients. I had to do it though! I’ve been dreaming about painting something this color since summer when I got the new Benjamin Moore Color Stories fan deck! I was just waiting to find the perfect piece! That piece found me a few weeks ago when my friends at 2 Brothers listed this dresser on Facebook! I was instantly drawn to it and every time I looked at it, it spoke to me!

Sleek Modern Dresser Before Makeover

“Ohhhh, Angela…you know that color you can’t stop obsessing about, Adriatic Sea…how awesome would that rich blue hue be on my wavy drawers? Oh, and check out my retro gold hardware! Reminiscent of anchor ties, no? I’d be absolutely sublime with a sleek, glossy finish to mirror those gold beauties! Come…rescue me!”

I couldn’t resist! I’ve told you before, I paint to keep. When I get the opportunity to paint something to sale {as opposed to custom work}, I paint it with no expectation of selling it and I choose colors I’d be happy to have in my own home! So, I patched up a few spots of missing veneer then gave this guy two coats of Benjamin Moore’s Adriatic Sea, mixed with Websters Chalk Paint Powder. I used a primed roller for most of this job including the high gloss clear coat.  The hardware got a fresh coat of gold spray paint which made them even more irresistible! I drooled the entire time I put them back on!

Yea, he’s bold! He’s gonna turn heads, but isn’t that what you want? I want my decor to wow! This piece can be used as that pop of color in a neutral room or it can play along with the other colors you already have going on! The clean, retro lines and glamorous gold accents make this piece timeless!

Having trouble seeing this style in your home? You aren’t alone! As a designer, I spent a lot of time opening minds and helping clients see how different  design styles could be brought together! The key to having a well appointed home is to infuse a variety of styles and design influences. I’m an “anything goes” kind of decorator! If I like it, I use it! I love mixing rustic and sleek finishes. Fabrics and accessories play a huge role in bringing them all together as well. I thought it would be fun to show you how versatile one piece can be! The 12 rugs below reflect a variety of styles and colors and show how one piece of furniture can transcend it’s appointed style tag!

See what I mean? It rocked every rug it was paired with! I’d honestly own every single one of those rugs if I could and I’d have a blast building a room around them! I’d love to hear about which one you love the most! Which one is your favorite?

Oh, the deep blue mister is still available if you’d like to add him to your home!

    Angela:
Regarding you high Gloss dresser transformation using Benjamin Moore’s Adriatic Sea, mixed with Websters Chalk Paint Powder. Beautiful! QUESTIONs:
    .Was primer used?
.What finish BM paint was used?
.What are the proportions of BM Paint to Websters Chalk?
.What function does Websters Chalk serve in this project? Or. What would result if it were not used?
Sorry for all the Q’s. If there’s a resource on your site you can direct me to, i’d be happy to look for the answers there.
    Many thanks, Robin

    • Hi Robin! No need to apologize! I welcome your questions as they add to the post! Primer was not used and the paint was Matte Finish. Websters eliminates the need for priming as it turns the latex into a chalky finish that adheres to just about anything! You can learn more about Websters by visiting their website, Websterschalkpaintpowder.com.

      All the best!
