Taking The Helm- Setting Intentions

I’ve spent a lot of time contemplating my future lately, friends. You ever do that? Like, really evaluate where you are and where you’re headed? It can be a bit overwhelming, especially for someone who runs a creative business and wants to just do everything that pops into their mind. That said, it’s an absolute necessity! I’ve been in evaluation mode for months, in both my personal and professional life and I want to share a bit of a break through with you today. If you know me you know I’m all about signs and wonders. I think the universe is constantly sending people and things into our lives as teaching tools. We often get so busy with the day to day grind that we overlook them though. Well, on a recent business trip I experienced one of those signs! My friend and I were driving over a large body of water which was full of recreational life! There were people skiing behind boats, on jet skis and drifting along in sailboats.  At the time I just casually observed all the activity and thought about how cool it would be to sail. I remember making note of wind that day and thinking how that wind must be of great help to the sailors. That was that. Our drive and conversation continued as normal. The next morning afforded me some free time so I took out my journal and began to write out intentions for my business. Out of nowhere, those sailboats came back to my mind and I couldn’t seem to shake them! I was a bit annoyed actually because I was so looking forward to creating that list. After a while I put down the pen and literally spoke out loud “what do you want me to see?”. As clear as could be I received my answer! Those sailboats were a picture of me at this point in my life. Just floating, drifting with the wind; moving to the left when need be and to the right when need be. What occurred to me in that moment was the wind I’d praised the day before, much like the winds of opportunity in my life, really don’t have that much to do with the success of the journey. You see, all the wind in the world won’t get a ship to its destination without … DIRECTION! There has to be an able mind and body to work the sails and guide the ship to shore. Otherwise, it just drifts! Like me.

AHHHHH!!!  That may not have been profound to you and I could never recreate the feeling with words, but as this picture was revealed to me I cried … like. a. baby. I’m tired of drifting! I have destinations I want to reach!! I have the wind at my back, y’all; all I have to do is take the helm!!!!! So, I determined to do just that! I spoke my shorelines out loud and wrote them down. I pictured myself reaching each one and imagined the feeling of success as I landed safely. I also wrote down the things in my path were blocking me from those destinations. As always, most of the obstacles were conjured up by fear. I wrote those down too and released them! It was about this time my tears turned into a happy dance! I went about my business for the day, thankful for the insight and turned in that night with a sound mind.

I got to sleep in a little the next morning but my mind was racing with ideas and thoughts on my direction for this blog, in my career and my life in general. Then, this happened… ANOTHER sign! It came in the form of a #truthbomb by Danielle Laporte. I get one every morning via her app {get it if you don’t have it!!!} and it just so happened to pop up in the middle of my internal conversation! Here’s what it said: Danielle LaPorte Truthbomb Confirmation. Total confirmation! I was meant to see those sailboats. Call me crazy if you wanna, but I’m convinced they were there for my eyes! A picture of beauty and freedom! A reminder that I alone am controlling this ship and I must keep it pointed to where I want it to go! This truth moved me so much, I came home and created a reminder for myself. The direction or “focus” of my blog will always be DIY {lifestyle blogging is just not for me} but you will be seeing different topics from me in the coming months. I can’t wait to share what I’ve been up to lately. I hope you’ll stick around for it and more than anything, I hope my current season of life, along with all it’s challenges will be of service and inspiration to you. Hi Angela. I know exactly what you are saying! From your mouth to my ears! I have been in this very same season of life for about 5 years now. My obstacles are not fear based, but medical based. Hopefully my appointment on Thursday in Birmingham will finally hold some answers for my season.
I pray that this leg of your journey is eventful, surprising, enlightening, discouraging, encouraging, fearful, full throttle, and every emotion that comes with new discoveries of oneself. Feel each emotion to its fullest. For in those moments is life itself! We tend to learn more about ourselves when things are tough.
I so look forward to watching you grow and discover just where your going and how you get there! I’m excited for you. May your discoveries be beautiful and fill your soul with great things!
    Have a blessed day, Hope
